Over £4000 raised for Molly Ollys from one Milton Keynes runner

May 20, 2024 | News

A fantastic achievement from Carl when he ran the Milton Keynes Marathon on the 6th May 2024. Not only did he finish the race despite numerous injuries, but he also managed to raise an astonishing £4393 for Molly Ollys!

Carl had no idea who Molly Ollys were until our co-founder Rachel gave a talk about the charity at the 25th Anniversary Celebrations of his brother-in-law’s workplace, Oakland International. After hearing about the ways in which Molly Ollys helps children with life-threatening illnesses, Carl was moved and made a pledge then and there to do something to help.

A few months later, Carl signed up for the Milton Keynes marathon and underwent gruelling training in order to get himself ready for the race of his life! After all his training (and sustaining a couple of minor injuries to his knees), he finished the race!

Carl said: ‘The race itself was tough! I set out and was comfortable but then eventually all the injuries I picked up during training caught up with me! My knee completely gave in at 21 miles but the thought of all the help and awareness that we have managed to create for Molly Ollys helped push me over the line, along with the support of my family, friends, children and grandchildren cheering me on at different points.’

“Once I had spoken to Rachel, I said I would do this and wanted to make sure I completed it. The charity is such a brilliant, heart-warming charity. It gives so much to children who really need it. I honestly felt so compelled to do all I can……My aches, pains and injuries are nothing compared to what these children have and are going through.”

We are so grateful to everyone who donated to Carl’s incredible challenge. He set out to raise £500 which is the equivalent of one wish for a child with a life -threatening illness. After having raised over £4000, Carl has helped provide the funds for 8 wishes!  From a chance meeting with Rachel, Carl was inspired to make a difference and his family, friends, work colleagues and Oakland really got behind him and very generously sponsored him. Thank you as always to the team at Oakland for inviting Rachel to join their celebrations and to Martyn Chapman and team at the Corby depot. Well done, Carl! What a legend!

Every donation, whatever size, helps a seriously unwell child

HELP MAKE WISHES COME TRUE

Current data suggests that 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every day, and that 1,900 children under the age of 14 in the UK are diagnosed each year.

More children are diagnosed with a range of other, often rare, conditions and illnesses that are also life-threatening.

Molly Ollys is committed to helping as many of these children and their families as possible, and works hard to raise the necessary funds to be able to help those who contact us.

You can help us do this by making a donation, joining in with our fundraising events, running your own events, using Give as You Live when you are shopping, and by leaving a legacy in your will. Please visit our How you can help page to find out more.
