Business Students Host Successful Charity Event for Molly Olly’s Wishes

Feb 18, 2025 | News

On February 14th, Level 3 Business students demonstrated their entrepreneurial skills and community spirit by hosting a vibrant charity event in support of Molly Olly’s Wishes, a charity dedicated to helping children with life-threatening illnesses.

The event was not only a testament to the students’ dedication but also a heartfelt tribute to a cause that aims to bring comfort and joy to children and their families during challenging times.

In preparation for the event, the students had the unique opportunity to meet with Rachel Ollerenshaw, the founder of Molly Olly’s Wishes. Rachel shared the emotional story behind the charity, which was set up in memory of her daughter Molly, who bravely battled cancer. Her emotional recounting of Molly’s journey and the charity’s mission to support children and their families resonated deeply with the students, inspiring them to further their fundraising efforts.

Determined to reach their target of £500—enough to grant a wish for a child in need—the students organised themselves into groups, each responsible for managing their own stall at the event. The stalls were creatively designed, offering a variety of goods and activities to attract and engage, with some incorporating a Valentine’s Day theme to coincide with the date.

As the event unfolded, the college was buzzing with excitement and a strong sense of community. One stall sold beautiful red roses, while another offered delicious homemade cupcakes that quickly became a crowd favourite. Handmade bracelets, crafted by the students with precision, were also available for purchase, adding a personal touch to the Valentine’s Day theme.

In addition to these themed offerings, other stalls provided interactive experiences that drew significant attention. A video game station allowed attendees to indulge in friendly competition, while a basketball hoop challenge offered a fun and energetic way to contribute to the cause. These activities not only entertained participants but also encouraged them to donate generously.

As the day progressed, it became clear that the students’ efforts were paying off. The combination of thoughtful planning, creative execution, and heartfelt motivation resulted in a successful event that exceeded expectations. While the final tally of funds raised is still being calculated, early indications suggest that the students have made a substantial contribution to Molly Olly’s Wishes, bringing them closer to fulfilling the dreams of children facing difficult health challenges.

The success of the charity event is a testament to the students’ commitment to making a positive impact beyond the classroom. By applying their business knowledge to a real-world scenario, they not only tested their entrepreneurial skills but also learned valuable lessons in empathy, teamwork, and social responsibilities.

HELP MAKE WISHES COME TRUE

Current data suggests that 12 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer every day, and that 1,900 children under the age of 14 in the UK are diagnosed each year.

More children are diagnosed with a range of other, often rare, conditions and illnesses that are also life-threatening.

Molly Ollys is committed to helping as many of these children and their families as possible, and works hard to raise the necessary funds to be able to help those who contact us.

You can help us do this by making a donation, joining in with our fundraising events, running your own events, using Give as You Live when you are shopping, and by leaving a legacy in your will. Please visit our How you can help page to find out more.
